Who doesn’t want to track their pets every day while at the office or running errands? Great news! Trakz, a UK based startup, wants to help dog and cat owners by creating high-tech products allowing them to track if their pets are eating correctly or getting the exercise they need. The company currently has two products, a GPS and fitness tracking device that can be attached to a pet’s collar. They also sell a feeding bowl tracker, which pet owners use to monitor how much their pets eat when they aren’t home. There are several other companies that have similar products, like Whistle, who offers a comparable product that integrates a GPS and fitness tracker and Fitbark, which is a startup that sells pet sleep monitors.
Trakz’s GPS tracking collar has an accelerometer sensor that gathers data that is later uploaded to a cell phone application. The application is compatible with iOS and Android phones. The app tracks the pet within the designated “safe zone” that can be in the home or the neighborhood. If the pet leaves the “safe zone” area the app will notify the pet owner and if the pet goes missing it will also send an alert to friends and family. The app also tracks where a cat spends most of their time, so the cat owner can find the pet when they are hiding. Additionally, the collar tracks how much walking the pet has done throughout the day. The collar has a lightweight design, is water resistant, and has a long battery life.
Trakz’s feeding bowl monitors how much food a pet is eating daily. The feeding bowl also lets pet owners know how many calories were consumed by the pet. This is extremely helpful for when the owner wants to monitor that the pet isn’t overeating.
The Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit is available to companies that design, develop, or improve products or processes. Trakz’s founders conduct several R&D design and development rounds to come up with the final product they are currently offering. Thus, making them the perfect candidate for the R&D Tax Credit.
