How awesome would it be to have your clothes automatically inform you how to improve your running form or prevent injuries? Well, Lumo Bodytech is making this technology a reality. The Palo Alto company has developed several sensors and software which permit a person to improve and enhance their daily activities. Lumo’s first wearable gadget, Lumo Lift, allows its users to improve their body posture. Through subtle vibrations, the gadget reminds the user to correct their posture throughout the workday.

Their second product is Lumo Run, which is referred as a “smart garment”. The product is available as shorts for men and capris for women. One can also buy the senor and Lumo clip and place them in their favorite running apparel. The company hopes that with this new technology runners can obtain a better form while still performing. A good running form ultimately improves a runner’s speed and it can also prevent injuries.

The gadget’s strategic placement allows the sensor to remain stable throughout the exercise routine and provide more accurate statistics. The gadget takes into account the jogger’s biometrics, posture and distance and provides readily-available data to correct a jogger’s movement in the moment. Don’t worry about damaging the gadget, Lumo Run’s sensor is waterproof and its battery lasts about a month on a single charge.

Lumo’s official website states that the wearable gadget’s algorithm reads a joggers cadence, bounce, ground contact time, braking, pelvic rotation, and stride length. The statistics formulated by the sensors are available in the Lumo Run App. Furthermore, the application also allows a user to get real-time audio coaching feedback, through the use of headphones, for prompt improvement.

The wearable technology is definitely within the industries that can benefit from Research and Development Tax Credits. The R&D Tax Credit is available to any company that designs and develops these types of sensors and software.  For more information on federal and state tax incentives, visit our website www.indagotax.com or email us at [email protected] .
